Today one of my bestfriend’s, Rayna, came over today.  SHe has been homeschooled her entire life, and this will be her first year of public school!!!   Lucky enough for me, I got to Interview Her about the changes that have happened over the last few months.

Me:  what was homeschooling like for you?

Rayna:  “It is very different from public school.  IN homeschooling, I was taught with a small group of kids. Nothing compared to the amount of kids at public school.  ALSo, we din’t have to study for tests, do homework, take quizzes, or do PE.  We go on a lot of field trips and do a lot of hands on things, which we don’t do as much in public school.”

Me:  What was the transition like for you?

Rayna:   “It was a huge change for me. from time to myself, and the comfort of my own home; to congested hallways, and a constant flow of homework.  As a dancer, it was hard for me to find time to do homework In between classes.”

Me:  What are the advantages/disadvantages to homeschool?

Rayna:  “The advantages to homeschool I think, is all the hands on activities and field trips we get.  And all the leisure time we have to ourselves. The disadvantages though, is being cooped up inside most of the day, and not really getting to socialize with other kids.”

Me: What are the advantages/disadvantages to public school?

Rayna:  The advantages to public school is getting to know all the different kids and teachers.  I think  the educational experience has been more advance.  One of the biggest disadvantages for myself, has been the lack of free time.  School ends later, and i get lots of homework, but I still somehow manage to get my homework in on time.

Me: what has been your overall opinion about public school?

Rayna:  Overall public school has been really fun, and i’m really glad I joined!!
